How Does Apple Help the World?
Apple’s Focus on Innovation
Throughout the years Apple has continually improved their devices and services. But where they started is also very interesting. As a direct competitor to Microsoft, Apple helped to also create the computers we now use and love (or hate!). Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak were the first ones to invent the computers the way we know them, but Microsoft ultimately became the bigger company. Though it’s believed that Microsoft stole the concept of Windows from Apple originally, but that’s in the past now. In any case, Apple has accomplished a lot!
The iPhone Craze
iPhones were truly an amazing invention back in its time. Phones back then weren’t as “smart” as they are now, but Apple created something unique and different. Even though Google takes a lot of credit for many inventions, Apple and Microsoft were the actual companies behind most of the ideas first. Apple helped to usher in a new generation of smarter and better cell phones. For them, it was about creating a unique experience to change how users interacted with their devices. Now days, iPhones continue to push the envelope competing with Google’s Android. Even with a much smaller market share, Apple continues to keep faithful fans!
Apple Watch Innovations
This would be one area to truly ask “How Does Apple Help The World?”, because in a way they do a lot more than most of us know. Before the Apple Watch there wasn’t a whole lot being invented in this area. Having a tiny smart phone on your wrist? Nah, that was unthinkable for many companies. There just wasn’t enough market demand for technologies like that. But Apple didn’t care, they released it and it took off in ways that have caused other companies to create their own versions. Apple yet again, had to take the first step to draw enough attention. This wearable technology has also influenced other wearable tech and innovation in this area. So in short, Apple helps innovation!
An Inventor of Safari and iTunes
It might be a bit of a surprise, but Apple has their own web browser and their own music store. Their music store is something they made famous, but their web browser is also a competitor to Google in a way. The technology is similar but they have developed a browser for their computers and their mobile devices. It’s actually more successful than Microsoft’s which is saying a lot, considering how Microsoft holds the larger market share on computers. Again, you might be wondering how does Apple help the world? Competition helps but Apple has also recently been pushing for improved privacy. By having a share in these markets, they have more of a say when pushing issues regarding our privacy. Has it accomplished a lot? It’s hard to say at this point, but it’s being noticed!
Apple Donates to Charity
Let’s put technology aside for a moment. The true heroes are companies or people who are helping those that are in need. So how does Apple help the world? They donate to charities! They match employee donations up to $10,000. Their company programs not only donate to charities but also support the places that their employees support! There is also a grant program where they offer money to non-profit places that their employees volunteer at. Apple helps in a lot of different ways but their programs have a lot to offer. Essentially, if all their employees were to donate to charities, the amount of money given could be very high! Which it’s said to date, that with these programs Apple has donated $78 million dollars.
Apple Tries New Things
Aside from their main innovations listed above, Apple has often patented strange and unique technologies. Not all of these technologies make it into devices but most of them help in one way or the other. The patents that they file are ideas to greater technologies. Sometimes they are ahead of their time, but they are still very creative. With all their inventions and patents, how does Apple help the world? They help it by pushing others to innovate. Sure, their lack of a headphone jack or their funky earphones are weird, but it’s different. Sometimes the best thing to do is to be different even if it fails. Being different allows them to try new technologies and to push their competition to do more.
Overall, Apple Does Help the World
I’ve always preferred Microsoft products, but it’s hard to deny the impact that Apple has had. Apple did help to invent the Windows operating system, it did create a better way for listening to music, and they are currently pushing user data privacy. It’s hard to overlook the great things they have accomplished through charity, or the new technologies that they are introducing. So to answer the question “how does Apple help the world?”, by doing what others are afraid to do. They make lots of mistakes, they get greedy but in the end they keep pushing forward.
